Photo Shoot Sneak Peek!

Fascinator Hat with Sequin Flower & Veiling

Yesterday we had a photo shoot with new hats and fascinators for La Coco Rouge!

Talk about a fun day out in the sunshine, costume changes and various hiking through dense vegetation to reach beautiful backgrounds to frame the photos.

Nathan C. Bailey of Sevenart took the photographs and his brilliance showcases the artful creations you'll see here.

We have ten new designs to share but I'll just give you a little taste of what is to come...

A Fresh Look!

Business Card Front - Image by Darling Studios

Wow - hard to believe that it has been a whole year since La Coco Rouge first opened shop on Etsy!

There have been some changes and growing pains over the past year and it has all been an empowering experience.

Although I have had ventures in the past with partners or trying stuff out on my own, it wasn't until La Coco Rouge came into my life that I really took hold of the reins and built a business from the ground up.

It's a challenge to be present in my daily life while still looking ahead to see what the next step will be and how I can improve upon what's been laid.

Business Card Back
This year marks a milestone for a year of La Coco Rouge.  To celebrate that endeavor I've been working with talented artists and designers Nathan Bailey of Sevenart and Jenn Ohme of IDEALdesign to create a new look.

A fresh banner and new business cards are helping with the roll over into a new space for creation.

Tweaks are still in the process but moving forward we are going for a vintage, classic and turn of the century look with a little bit of modern day spice and sass!

I'd love to hear what you think about the new look!

Etsy Wedding Team Fall Challenge

Etsy Wedding Team Fall Challenge
The Etsy Wedding Team is hosting a challenge!  The team members were encouraged to submit items for a fall themed wedding.

There are so many talented artists here from which to choose to build a wedding.  Decor, Invitations, Accessories - you name it.

I have copied the rules from the EWT website:

To choose your favorite item, cast your vote in the poll on the right sidebar. The team member with the most votes by November 15, 2011 will win a special prize.

**Bonus for our readers – if you comment on this post, with the item you like the best, and that item is the winner at the end of the voting period, the lucky commenter will win a $20 visa/mastercard giftcard.**
*Earn an additional entry by retweeting this post, and mentioning @EtsyWeddingTeam in your tweet.**

Of course La Coco Rouge has an item in here too but I encourage you to vote for what you like the best!

Midnight in the Garden of Pumpkin

I made this treasury a while back but it is Halloween, Samhain, the Edge of the Veil, the World Between Worlds...

Inspired by the magical blue pumpkin photo by CarlaDyck on Etsy.

Moody and expressive I just love the colours of blue and brown together - very autumn twilight and earthy.

This one was made with the members of Team Serendipity.

You can visit the featured shops here.

Enjoy and Happy Halloween!

Another fabulous treasury inspired by this magical time is from CurationNation team member Melinda Milkshake (purveyor of fab vintage finds) with her Etsy Front Page T:

It's the Great Pumpkin!

Harvest - Photo by Nathan Bailey
Okay – maybe not quite the Great Pumpkin of Charlie Brown’s childhood but definitely reminiscent of Halloween and its orange symbol.

Harvest was one of my favourite pieces to discover.  I had set a goal for myself to create something different and smaller from my earlier pieces.

I gravitate towards large, expansive pieces – dramatic, bold, feathery.

This was to be a softer, more feminine and dainty headpiece.

The reddish orange color of these flower petals was so rich and vibrant that I wanted to soften them.  I chose pale, translucent and white gold glittery leaves and matched them with some imported cream and beige velvet leaves I had on hand.

To top it off I added the piece de resistance which was a peach and orange jeweled centerpiece with softly swinging dangles.

The result as you can see is an art deco inspired headpiece.

Now here’s the story behind the completed design.

I had actually gone to bed with my studio in disarray with my half completed projects lying out on my table.  I had a show coming up and was in the process of creating new designs to showcase.

Tossing and turning and not falling asleep I finally dragged myself out of bed at 2 AM and went to stare at my table…and that’s when the magic happened.

I couldn’t sleep because I kept thinking about this piece.  What could I put with it, would these feathers work or maybe those pearls I’m so enamored of, and so on.

And then it seemed as though the right pieces caught my eye and put all together they worked.  So I assembled the piece (without any feathers!)  leaving the comb to be sewn on the following day and went to bed.

Where I fell straight to sleep.
